Lynda Carter was recently named Beauty and Fashion Director for Maybelline. As such, she will play an active role in new product development. As a performer, she will be able to use and test cosmetics under a wide variety of conditions, something that will put her in a unique position to help develop and improve products.

Lynda was born in Phoenix, the youngest of three children. She made her professional singing debut at age fifteen in Tempe, Arizona. In 1973, she won the Miss World U.S.A. title and shortly thereafter outdistanced hundreds of other actresses for the part of "Wonder Woman," a character she infused with such depth and humor that the popular CBS series is now seen in over one hundred countries.

This fall, Lynda will be seen in a two-hour CBS film entitled "The Last Song". Also slated for airing on CBS this fall is "Lynda Carter: An Encore," a musical special follow-up to the show which garnered rave reviews and high ratings last January. Last September 29, she began a one-week engagement at the London Palladium, returning to the United States to begin production on "The Baby Brokers," an NBC dramatic special about the black-marketing of infants in this country. Lynda will also star in a major motion picture entitled "Rose and Violet", a comedy western set in Texas in the later nineteenth century.

The editors of HAIR STYLES & CARE recently interviewed Lynda about her involvement with Maybelline and about her beauty and shape-up secrets. Lynda's fabulous shape and dazzling beauty are world-famous and we wanted her to share her secrets with our readers.

Q. What do you do to stay in shape?

A: l do everything. I try to exercise everyday, which is hard because I'm so busy all of the time. I lift weights, jog, play tennis, floor exercise, swim, and do a lot of stretching.

Q: Do you diet?

A: Yes. I stop eating when I have to take off a certain amount of weight. Basically I don't eat. When I do have a meal I eat half of whatever is on my plate, that way I can't ask for seconds. I eat a lot of proteins during the day and at night I try to eat nothing at all. I drink a lot of water and psyche myself up not to be hungry. If I have a craving for Doritos, l'll eat radishes instead. I'm satisfied because you feel like your eating the same thing because radishes crunch like Dorito's.

Q: What kind of make-up do you use?

A: Maybelline. I love MOISTURE WHIP because it has a sun screen in it that helps to prevent lines from forming, and my work takes me out in the sun a lot. I use the pencils and Blooming Colors.

Q: Do you use tone-ups?
A: None. The only thing that I use is milk wash and moisturizers.
Q: How do you take care of your skin?

A: Basically I try to keep it as clean as possible. Beauty begins with clean skin. If your skin isn't clean there's no make-up in the world that will took good on you. t start off with hot water, then I finish off with water as cold as I can take it to close up my pores. And I use as little make-up as possible.

Q: How do you take care of your hair?

A: I wash it everyday and I change shampoos every other day. I use the same method with my hair as I do with my face. I wash it with first hot water, and then cold.

Q: Do you take vitamins?

A: Yes. My brother-in-law Jon Cole has a power pack vitamin company called New Life. The
vitamins come in a little packet all together so you don't have a million bottles all around. They're muffles and are great. I take them everyday...

Q: What about your involvement with Maybelline?

A: I'm their director for fashion and beauty. I work on commercials and print ads. I spend a lot of time with the lab technician. It's an impressive, small family-type atmosphere. I am there a lot. Now I'm working with a chemist on new cleansing products. I try out all of their new products. I have a total involvement. "I believe in what they're doing and how they go about what they do. " "It's not just 'I use so you should use,' I'm involved because I want to be, not because 1 have to be. 1 wouldn't get involved with a commercial company unless I felt as strongly about it as I do for Maybelline." I have a lot of creative control.

Q: What does Wonder Woman have to do with where you are today?

A: Everything. Wonder Woman had everything to do with everything. She's basically responsible for the upswing in my career.

Q: Do you smoke?

A: No. I quit about a year ago , because my husband couldn't take it. Besides, it's not good for your health, and it's a bad habit. I still have a craving for it every once in a while.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: I have huge plans. I'm doing two feature films for television, two specials for television. My first thing for T. V. will be with Tom Jones and Merle Haggard. It will be out either in late October or early November. I'll be recording in the future. I love to sing and work very hard at it. Music "brings me a lot of joy. " My first movie will be Last Song which is about wastes and the cover-ups involved. My next movie is based on a true story about the baby-selling market. It's called Baby Brokers.

Q: When's your birthday? A: July 24. I'm 28 years old.
