US - September 1978 OLD SHOWS: FLOPS
No one is enterily sure why old shows -specially those that had been hits- fail after a few seasons. Some have exhausted their dramatic or comic promise. Some shows or stars -notably Mary Tyler Moore a couple of seasons ago- simply quit while the quitting is good. The genre itself -cowboy shows or police dramas- may wear out its welcome. producers rejuggle casts and lose the show's chemestry. The plot grow weary, so do the actors, and soon to follow in this trilogy of tiredness is the audience: presto -last year's hit is this year's flop. At the bottom of the following pages we nominate some established shows that will probably flop this season.
WONDER WOMAN, CBS, FRIDAY
In its brief embattled career, "Wonder Woman" was dropped by one network, picked up by another, then updated from 1940s fantasy to 1970s foolishness. Can bullet-stopping bracelets or a thruth-inducing lasso save "Wonder Woman?". It's doubtful. Lynda Carter is a strikingly attractive woman, but this glitzy vehicle for showing off her charms appears to have run out of gas.
